Superman & Lois season 2: Release date, cast, trailer and latest news

The Arrowverse series, which is inspired by the DC comic books, is a new take on the story of Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) and his true love, Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch).

Season 2 picks up where season 1 left off, but when will the show become available to watch in the UK?

Superman & Lois season 2 UK air date

Superman & Lois season 2 premiered in the US on The CW on 11th January 2022.

UK fans will get to watch the second season from Saturday 16th July at 5:25pm and 6:05pm on BBC One.

Superman & Lois season 2 cast

As one might expect, Tyler Hoechlin will reprise his role as Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent and will be joined by Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane.

Meanwhile, Jordan Elsass will reprise his role as Superman and Lois’ son Jonathan Kent, with Alex Garfin back as his super-powered brother Jordan Kent.

Elsewhere, Emmanuelle Chriqui will be back in the role of Clark’s good friend Lana Lang-Cushing, with Erik Valdez back as her husband Kyle Cushing and Inde Navarrette as her wild older daughter Sarah Cushing.

Dylan Walsh is also back as Lois’ father, General Sam Lane.

We can also expect returns for Wolé Parks as the heroic The Stranger/John Henry Irons and Adam Rayner as the villainous Morgan Edge/Tal-Rho/Eradicator.

Sofia Hasmik has been promoted to the main cast in her role as journalist Chrissy Beppo.

New additions this season include Ian Bohen in the antagonistic role of Lieutenant Mitch Anderson who wants to bring Superman under his remit, plus Jenna Dewan returns after her appearance in Supergirl as Lois’ younger sister, Lucy Lane.

Finally, Irons’ daughter Natalie has been promoted to the main cast for the second season after arriving in Smallville in the season 1 finale.

In the comics, Natalie aka Natasha Irons is one of the multiple heroes to use the codename Steel like her father - who in the comics is her uncle.

What is Superman & Lois season 2 about?

Superman & Lois season 2 follows on from the first instalment of the show, which saw Superman battle his Kryptonian half-brother Tal-Rho/Morgan Edge (Adam Rayner) while the Kent family adjusted to life in Smallville.

The season ended with a huge cliffhanger as Natalie, the daughter an alternate version of Lois had with John (Wole Parks) on his Earth, crash landed at the Kent farm. Natalie was stunned to see her mother, alive and well, standing beside the man who supposedly murdered her.

Season one might have been a lot to deal with, but family tensions on the Arrowverse series aren’t going to stop there.

Speaking ahead of season 2, series showrunner Todd Helbing told TV Insider that the new episodes will dig further into the history of the Lane family and see the arrival of Lois’s sister Lucy (Jenna Dewan).

"With all of our cast, I think last year we found out the type of stories we can tell, with regards to Lois's miscarriage episode," he said. "So we wanted to really dive into the history of the Lane family, introduce Lucy and give the audience an understanding about why Lois is the way she is, why [General] Lane (Dylan Walsh) is the way he is, why Lois hadn't talked about Lucy, why [General ] Lane never talked about their mother, and then really fold that into the couple to see how they would deal with a situation like that."

He continued: "When I thought about Lois Lane's character and how her relationship with [General] Lane had evolved over the first season, it really felt like, you know, you can go two ways when something like that happens to you: You either go the way of Lois if you're an alpha type, like 'I can compartmentalise, I can just deal with trauma and move on.' And in a lot of ways that makes a perfect partner for Superman, right? Because she's so strong and able to not worry about him every time he goes out to save the world.

"But then there's the flip side, where you feel like you're missing something in your life and so that is kind of what we explore with Lucy."

Superman & Lois season 2 trailer

We have an official behind-the-scenes clip for the second season that was released in October 2021 as part of the DC FanDome event.

The clip shows stars Elizabeth Tulloch (Lois Lane) and Alex Garfin (Jordan Kent) giving a tour of the Kent farm set.

Superman & Lois released its first trailer, hinting at tension between Clark and newcomer Ian Bohen, who plays a man working for the Department of Defense, Lt Mitch Anderson.

Anderson tries to get Superman to declare his allegiance to the US.

"You're more of a liability than a hero," Anderson says.

However, Kent replies: "What you asked for was my allegiance to America… I gave it to the world a long time ago."

A trailer for season 2's epic finale has also landed, showing the Man of Steel gearing up for battle. Watch above.
